Where dit it all start with the Grass Race?

In 2002 at the local farmers association, a suggestion was made to hold a fun-ride where the knowledge of the participants can be tested. This would expose the participants to the natural beauty of the Vegkop area, as well as to provide enjoyment along the route. For several years now motorcyclists have been following a separate route.

But we wanted to offer more to our sponsors and we decided to only stage the Grasren (grass race) from 2008.

During the 2008 Grasren participants had 24 sponsored stops where participants contested in the events. In exchange for exposure to the sponsors, they provided lots of enjoyment to the participants at certain poings.

At Univision, Paul Els, our main sponsor, provided laugther all round for participants and spectators. Paul held a "pinch-the-line" and a "drop-the-stopper-into-the-bottle" competitions. You should have seen the moves of some of the contestants.

As in the past, on Goedehoop, at the Van Loveren wine cellar, a bokdrol-spitting competition was held where everyone had to spit like never before! There was a case of wine at stake for the best husband-and-wife spitting team. For future participants, practice sessions can be arranged in advance.

The 4x4 competition on the red route on Moratuwa had capable participants and the winners went home with big prizes! The red-route was incorporated into the normal route where a few clear obstacles were prepared. While safe-enough for both participants and their vehicles the required skills were thoroughly tested.

Both the start- and end locations at the Enkeldoorn dam were extremely busy. Participants had to stop at the exhibitions of sponsors to complete a questionaire. After this the "examinators" determined who the winners are.

While our guests and participants enjoyed delicious sosaties and other dishes, the organisers prepared to award the big prizes. Every sponsored-point chose their prize winners while Johann chose the winners of the "grasren". The prize giving provided lots of joy to the participants with great prizes.
